Thursday and Friday 13th and 14th November 2014 sees the return of the much acclaimed annual Bodies & Co. fashion shows for Charity. This outstanding two-day fundraising event has been running for 35 years and features over 50 male and female models, aged between 6 and 77!
More than 1200 visitors attend the evening events which are presented on two consecutive evenings held in the Spa Centre, Leamington Spa to experience an eclectic mix of local designs from almost 30 fashion retailers from Kenilworth, Leamington and Warwick, presented in a series of professionally choreographed sets. Local Leamington retailers include:
- Louie Noire
- Austin Reed
- Danish Wardrobe
- Phase 8
This year, designs will include lingerie, evening-wear, teenage-wear, menswear, children’s-wear, dresses and coats, celebrating the best of local fashion talent. Tickets sell at a flat rate of £13 per head.
The 2014 beneficiaries of ticket sales from both shows will be The Poppy Appeal and The Children’s Air Ambulance Service who will be presented with their cheques on the night. Last year Molly Ollys Wishes and Young Carers each received £7,000.
Event organiser and Comperé, Jenni Fuller explained, “Each year we ask our models to choose the charities we will support and generally we split approximately £14,000, generated from ticket sales and the raffle, between the charities they select. We are also very fortunate in that many local businesses are generous enough to donate some enticing prizes for the raffle. Our goal is to entertain our loyal supporters and showcase regional fashion talent while fundraising for special causes. We’re thrilled by the range of fashion being showcased this year!”
The fashion shows start at 7.30pm on both evenings and finish at approximately 10pm, early arrival is recommended as there is no allocated seating.
Gruelling rehearsals start some 10 weeks before the show and are managed by Jenni and her team of choreographers who are also instructors at Bodies & Co. fitness groups. The groups can be found throughout Warwickshire and have been welcoming attendees of all ages for 37 years, in some cases original members still take part in the groups.
“There is a great camaraderie between our models, some have been involved with us from a young age – our youngest and newest models are just 6 years old. A few years ago we had a model that was tall, beautiful and an excellent model and went on to be a top model doing shows in Paris and Milan. We are still in touch with her but unfortunately she lives too far away to model on our shows now. They all treat the fashion shows very professionally and work extremely hard not only on the night but in the weeks of hard rehearsals leading up to the shows.”
